Online MIDI Player

Open a .mid or .midi file, hear every part, and inspect the notes in four musical views — free, private, and in your browser.

Open your MIDI

Your file stays in this browser. Songparts reads it locally and fetches only the instrument SoundFont.

How to play a MIDI file online

  1. 1. Choose a MIDI file. Select or drop a .mid or .midi file. It is read locally, then its tracks, notes, tempo, and time signature appear above the player.
  2. 2. Press Play. The first play loads the General MIDI instrument sounds. After that, playback starts immediately from the playhead.
  3. 3. Explore the arrangement. Mute or solo tracks, change instruments, slow the tempo, set a loop, zoom, scrub, or switch the visualization.

What an online MIDI player does

A MIDI file contains timed note events, velocities, instrument programs, and other performance instructions. A MIDI player turns those instructions into sound with a synthesizer while keeping the tracks and notes available for inspection.

Songparts uses a General MIDI SoundFont for consistent browser playback. It preserves the composition and arrangement, but the tone can differ from the hardware, plug-ins, or effects used when the file was created.

MIDI player, viewer, and visualizer

These names describe different parts of the same task. The player makes the MIDI audible, the viewer exposes its tracks and musical data, and the visualizer draws when and where the notes occur. This tool combines all three so the picture stays aligned with playback.

Four ways to view the notes

  • Piano roll: a left-to-right timeline for comparing pitch, timing, and note length.
  • Falling notes: a vertical view that meets an on-screen keyboard at the playhead.
  • Standard notation: a score-style view for reading staff notation.
  • Guitar tab: a fretboard-oriented view for guitar parts and playable note layouts.

FAQ

Is the online MIDI player free?
Yes. You can open, play, and visualize a MIDI file without an account or payment.
Is my MIDI file uploaded?
No. The selected MIDI file is read in your browser and is not sent to Songparts. Your browser fetches Songparts's General MIDI SoundFont when you press Play.
Which MIDI files are supported?
The player accepts Standard MIDI files with a .mid or .midi extension, up to 10 MB, 10 minutes, and 100,000 notes.
Why does the MIDI sound different from my DAW?
MIDI stores notes and performance instructions rather than a fixed recording. This player uses a General MIDI SoundFont, so it cannot reproduce external plug-ins, synthesizers, or the exact mix from a DAW project.
What MIDI visualizations are available?
You can switch between a horizontal piano roll, falling notes, standard notation, and guitar tab. You can also inspect tracks, change instruments, mute or solo parts, zoom, loop, and change playback speed.
Does the MIDI player work on phones and tablets?
Yes. The player is responsive and touch-friendly in modern mobile browsers. Audio starts after a tap because browsers require a user gesture before playing sound.
